Washington: US President Donald Trump has stated that any war with Iran would end quickly. He added that he is open to reaching an agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear program. Following this announcement by Trump, Iran has also declared that it is prepared to provide maritime, technical, and medical assistance to commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iran's state-run news agency, IRNA, a statement issued by the maritime authority indicated that this announcement is directed at ship commanders. Its stated objectives are to ensure maritime safety, enhance the operational efficiency of vessels, and safeguard the well-being of their crews.
The authority stated that this message is being formally broadcast via the maritime communication channels of Iranian ports. The message is intended for all vessels operating in the region—particularly those navigating within or near Iranian territorial waters and designated anchorage zones. Emphasizing its regulatory mandate and obligations, the Ports and Maritime Organization asserted that this initiative underscores Iran's commitment to ensuring safe and sustainable maritime traffic within the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the news agency ANI, the announcement further specified that this message would be broadcast three times daily for three consecutive days across the region's maritime communication networks and VHF systems. The advisory urges ship captains and owners to contact the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) centers at the nearest Iranian ports—or their local representatives—via VHF Channel 16 to request assistance or to report operational requirements.
This announcement comes at a time when President Trump stated on Tuesday that "Project Freedom" would be temporarily suspended. The objective of this US initiative was to facilitate the movement of commercial vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz amidst rising tensions in the Gulf region, while simultaneously maintaining a naval blockade of Iranian ports.
Writing on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that this decision was made at the request of Pakistan and other nations. Pakistan is playing the role of a mediator to broker a peace agreement between the United States and Iran. Trump claimed that the U.S. has achieved significant military success in its military operations against Iran, and that progress has also been made toward a potential agreement with Iranian representatives. The US President further stated that this operation was halted to determine whether an agreement between Iran and the United States could be finalized and signed.
